About 40% of cancer cases are preventable through healthy life choices, as well as several different policies that have been put in place to safeguard the health of Canadians. Luckily for you, it is not too late to start reducing your cancer risk today.

The number of cases preventable by altering and making changes in our daily lives was computed by the Canadian Population Attributable Risk of Cancer. They found that making healthier choices and safeguarding ourselves at home and in the workplace can greatly reduce the risk of cancer.

If we begin to take action today, it is possible to stop many of the potential cancer cases by the year 2042. The most important thing is to have a complete understanding of the cancer-exposing risks, e.g. tobacco, sunlight exposure, obesity, unhealthy diets, asbestos, etc., and taking specific action to keep ourselves safe in our daily lives.

According to statistics, 7 out of 10 Canadian adults are not active enough. This is one of the changes that should be made, physical activity reduces the risk of cancer development.
